Shipping and processing windows

Quotes like “3–5 business days” give a window. The earliest date uses the lower number and the latest uses the higher one, both counted from today.

What “N business days from today” means

Today is day zero. You count forward one business day at a time, skipping Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, and the date you land on after N steps is the answer. So on a Friday, 1 business day from today is the following Monday, not Saturday.

Weekends stretch the count. Starting on Saturday, November 7, 2026, 1 business day later is Monday, November 9, 2026: Sunday is skipped as well. Holidays stretch it again: from Friday, November 20, 2026, 5 business days is Monday, November 30, 2026, 10 calendar days later, because Thanksgiving on Thursday, November 26 is skipped.

Counting back

“N business days ago” steps backward the same way. From Thursday, November 12, 2026, 3 business days ago was Friday, November 6, 2026, because Veterans Day on Wednesday, November 11 is not a business day.

Which holidays count

The table uses the 11 US federal holidays on the days they are observed. Banks follow the Federal Reserve schedule, which differs when a holiday falls on a Saturday: Juneteenth 2027 is a Saturday, so 1 business day after Thursday, June 17, 2027 is Monday, June 21, 2027 for federal offices but Friday, June 18, 2027 for banks. Switch the holiday set under Options to see the difference.

Reading the tables

In the main table, “From today” is the date N business days ahead and “Calendar days” is how far away that date is, weekends and holidays included. The “Ago” column steps back instead, which is handy for checking whether a deadline counted in business days has already passed, such as a return window or a response period that started some days ago. Every date is calculated for your own “today” when the page loads, and the page itself is rebuilt every night.

Using a window

For a quote such as 5–7 business days, read the earliest and latest dates from the windows table. If the order or request is made late in the day, many businesses start counting from the next business day, which pushes both dates out by one. The lead time calculator handles cut-off times.
